[Year 12 IT Apps] ITA 2013 post mortem - Part A

Greetings everyone,

A big thanks to Mark for his post mortem. Just getting to Part B now. In terms of Part A, I agree with all responses except Q1, which can only be C (project-based) if we accept the textbook classification of online communities.

Unlike Mark, I thought Q4 was a very poor one. Although "swipe card" is the likely correct response (since it's the only option that may arguably be classified as a "physical device"), it actually does the precise opposite of what the question is asking.

Rather than helping to "prevent unauthorised access to data and information on a network", a swipe card grants access to data and information on a network that's protected by a swipe card reader. You steal my swipe card (or copy it) and suddenly you have access to my protected files. Like a conventional key, all the swipe card can do is unlock/remove the provided security; it does not provide the security in the first place.

As long as we can still resort to a cup of tea and a good lie down, we might be able to skip the Bex :-)

But I still find dancing girls and beer work quite well too.

Hi Mark

Off topic a touch but also as a fellow long trouser I remember the days when I was a short trouser and was sent (in Yr 5) from our class several hundred metres to the corner shop (alone) to get our teacher a packet of Benson & Hedges and a packet of Bex. It was considered one of the plum extra-curricular jobs. Oh for simpler times :)

Hi Mark!

As a fellow long-trouser, I wish you luck on section B of the paper and I hope you enjoy a panadol, a cup of tea and a good lie down. As I remember them Bex were APC (aspirin, phenacetin and caffeine) and went out of production when phenacetin was banned.

Section A is done... I am keen to argue the toss over my suggested answers.

I need to have a Bex and a good lie down* before embarking on section B.

That ERD issue has been bugging me for 3 years now...

Many thanks to the anonymous daemons, sprites and fairies who magically made the ITA paper appear before me. Salut!

*For you short-trousered folk, this is a reference to an ancient aspirin advertisement. Does Bex still exist?
