The VCE Study design for ITA Unit 3 Outcome 2 requires students to
consider the operation of a Virtual Team.

The typical approach to this task has been theoretical, which provides
limited learning opportunities.

The use of One Note, part of MS-Office 2007, enables students to
participate in a virtual environment, adding/modifying/updating and
annotating each others text and images as if they shared a screen,
in real time.

Students work in groups, but sit apart to simulate geographical
dispersion (I have threatened to run my classes from home ;-).
Communication is via their shared Virtual Workspace, and can be
supplemented by email, messaging, (you could allow simulated snail mail
(passing notes ;-) or mobile phones (!) to set up and augment their
virtual sessions.

Once the session is established "What you do, We all see"

Lesson One is establishing protocols for communication.

It is real time, not orderly or sequential, there is no automatic
flow control, students must develop rules for communication.

"Who wrote that? added that image/annotation..?" "Who deleted that?"

I used it for U302 this year and the students loved it.

It was also a fun way to end their assessment task (something
I have wanted to achieve for some time now ;-)

And finally, if you want to avoid face to face staff meetings...

I have uploaded a copy of the simple instructions to set up
a One Note shared session to the VITTA website. As it includes
annotated screen shots it has blown out to >2Meg and I wasn't
comfortable attaching that to the list;
