[Year 12 IPM] OT - Edumail Exasperation

mmm ... thanks guys ... lots of food for thought in your suggestions.

I guess everyone is different - to be honest I don't want to mix up my eduma=
il with my home and business email (which I collect via Outlook on a home de=
sktop). Also Outlook can only be accessed from the home computer.

And my other problem is I have 2 school emails - edumail gets all the email=
which is sent to Bentleigh SC teachers (I am on a year's LWOP) plus all the=
edulists I subscribe to, plus other assorted educational/learning emails wh=
ich I send/receive.

Then I have my Lauriston email - which is easy - open Outlook on my Lauristo=
n tablet PC and if I am at school I have instant access to all that email, p=
lus I DO use the Calendar for every class/meeting/helpdesk duty/yard duty/as=
sembly etc - so that is fine. Once you have set up the calendar it is great!=
I don't do anything with paper nowadays. And I use the Tasks also for thing=
s I have to do. If I am home or on another computer I can access my Lauristo=
n email and calendar via their website.

The problem with edumail is that it is slow...I could send an email with not=
hing in it to myself and it could take half an hour, sometimes I email one o=
f the edulists, then someone else may email a similar suggestion, but mine w=
on't appear for another 40 minutes or so (and then I look like the doofus!!!=
lol) or I will hit reply, then get sidetracked, and then a blank email hits=
the edulists (embarrassing plus) I know I am not the only person this has h=
appened to. Also it has a limit on file sizes sent or received, and a limit=
on how much you can store in the inbox, but I can't find out what these lim=
its are or what percentage of that limit I have used. Also people tell me th=
ey send something to my edumail but I never get it. I just think that it is=
unreliable. Attaching a file takes forever and you can only attach one file=
at a time, received attachments often have to be saved before you can open=
them (now that makes sense eh!! - How do you know whether you want to save=
it when you haven't even seen it!!??!!). The one advantage of edumail is i=
ts spam free nature.

Anyway the positive of all this is that Peter Thomson had the edumail setups=
for yahoo, so I can now pull my edumail into there, it still looks as thoug=
h I am sending from edumail, but in fact it comes from yahoo, and I have 200=
Mb of storage and a bar graph shows me what percentage of that I have used=
 :))

In the meantime I am hoping that gmail will get it happening so that you can=
import other emails into it, then we will all have 2 gig email storage, and=
if that happens I will probably move everything over to my gmail address!!

Thank you all once again, and cheers

I keep playing with Outlook and then find it won't do something or other
I've always taken for granted in a mail client. I tend to use
Thunderbird on my WinXP machine but on Linux I use
Mutt/Fetchmail/Procmail/Sendmail! Just call me old fashioned but I love
text based apps (speed+) :)

The Thunderbird features I find most useful are the filtering tools
combined with labelling. Maybe you can do that with Outlook but I never
found it very configurable - as for importing mail from Outlook Express
into Outlook - I needed to use Eudora's import/export tools!

Evolution is too Outlook-like for me but I do like its virtual folders
which have been picked up in Thunderbird as saved dynamic searches.

To return to the original thread - our mail configuration doesn't delete
ALL the records from pop3.edumail so I have needed to visit EDumail's web
interface to do an annual cleanout.
