Roslyn, doesn't work when you have 12P1 and 12P2, which then has to
become 2P2, so it's a real mess.  It's either change the school codes as
you've suggested or get the CASES people to change the database field
sizes.  

 

I mean we live in the 21st Century.  Restricting field sizes to three
characters was the go in the retro age- but storage is not an issue
these days, not with terabyte disk storage just around the corner.  

 

Also did you know that CASES only exports in Microsoft Excel?  You can't
even get a Text file out of it.  Three cheers for the Victorian
Education Department and Microsoft.

Have any Victorian Government schools managed to work around the problem
of coding their descriptors from years 10-12 given that CASES software
only allows three characters?

 

Eg:  A year 12 class becomes 2P2 instead of the full description 12P2.
You can see why this causes others in the school using the data major
headaches.  

Any solutions, suggestions are more than welcome.
