Hopefully the courses are not tied _that_ much to specific vendors'
products...

It appears that RB can do the whole 'OLE container' routine, so the
answer is 'probably'. 

I would presume you could use the VBA scripting language in Excel to do
much of the back-end work, rather than need to rely on VB/RB for that.
