Open source? Free?..Sounds like a perfect candidate for the UBUNTU software. Just make sure you have a reasonably recent processor with lots of RAM. The machine I used at our Wellington day, is just too slow with not enough oomph! 450Mhz processor and 512K RAM, is what it is configured with. Its just not up to it. Perhaps a minimum processor of P4 with suitable RAM is the go. As for the UBUNTU site, that can be provided if you like too.
Good luck with your machines Geoffory, hope this idea helps. Oh, allow about up to 2 weeks for the CD's to arrive. I got mine in perfect condition in a neat little bubble wrapped package...no probs.(I got one of each type of the 3 on the web site).

Help I an assisting at the Chelsea mens Shed.
At present I have worked through what is a computer by taking the men through the need to keep a computer clean. we dismantled a computer and thoroughly cleaned the dust from an old pentium we had been given. Now the men are interested in the basics of the various programs like Word ,Escel, database, Publisdher etc as they put together their own notices for events.
My knowledge is somewhat damage since the my brain aneurysm.
Asssitance in locating where I may obtain 'open ' software to perform the various function at minimum or gratious costs would be appreciated. acknowledgements of all assistants would be acknowledge by the group in their endeavours.
my thanks in advance.

	Hi Rob,

Ive attached the draft of a unit I wrote. This is fairly structured. Version two is more open ended but incomplete.

NXT is just the latest in a line of Lego Robotics systems. Also known as the Grey brick replaces the Yellow Brick

I found it easiest to get a small team of keen students to build the robots, prior to the Math Science classes using the assembled robots for these activities. The final activity required the students to sell their robots.

	Regards,

	Marcel

At Strathmore Secondary College we developed a Math, Science and Technology unit using Lego NXT stuff. In 2006 I received funding through Innovations and Excellence to purchase some kits. Kids really enjoyed it. The NXT programming is very intuitive and kids largely teach themselves. At present we are working with VSSEC and the autonomous systems dept from the University of Sydney to further develop the units. I can send you some material, still in draft form, if you wish.

	Regards,

	Or for maths in particular?
