[Yr7-10it] VELS Materials to share

Good luck with the meetings.

The argument is the same for other Technology subjects, such as Food Technology or Design Technology. The students need to be taught a basic skill set by trained professionals, if they are to then use and apply these skills in other settings - whether this is at school or in their everyday lives. Integration is great but cannot replace the technology training students need to become competent and confident users in the future.

Thank you so much Loretta and Kervork and also to Keith for putting this together for all of us.

The three IT staff and the principal of our school are meeting next week to discuss these issues. Unfortunately much of our IT is being cut out next year purely because of a staffing problem (one staff member on leave for first semester) and the other two of us are part-timers, with one who only teaches 9 lessons of IT because she is also wears the Careers/MIPS hat.

I will use much of this material to support our argument to retain ICT as a separate subject - thank you to every one once again.

Kevork has recently made a new link from the edulists tree of knowledge called VELS , which has several resources on there including Paula's PD presentations on VELS as well as a package of material I sent him recently.

I have tried to put together some VELS planning documents for my faculty - they are rough but people are welcome to adapt them to their situation if they are useful. I would welcome suggestions from others who have started planning for VELS.

I will also upload them to VITTA as suggested.
