Yes, validation can only check for reasonableness (range, type, existence)
and not accuracy.
It's an annoying slip that tends to recur in exams - even VCAA was not
immune in the 2007 ITA paper, question A9...

Validation is used to
A. check the accuracy of calculations.
B. detect software errors and alert the manager.
C. test functions and alert programmers to errors.
D. prevent inaccurate data from entering the system.

The official answer was D even though the study design's description of the
PSM (p.17) clearly states that Development involves "Validation to check
for the reasonableness of data being input."
