I recall spending a small fortune learning first ASP and then .NET until I
finally killed of my old and rather ugly Windows 2003 ASP server last month
(grateful that there will be no more broken code with each minor update ..
)

There is an interesting trend I have noticed over the past few years. This
article in cnet confirmed it. I have no regrets, the old and new VITTA
subject association websites were all built using open source technologies
and all run on Linux servers, the same technology that developers out there
are growing up with using.

http://is.gd/bxTLx ASP/.NET will fade out as skills retire leaving PHP +
> Linux programmers.

What do others think?

Regards Roland

PS: Check out Kevork's splendid PHP MYSQL book that uses open source
software and the VITTA courses that support this if you want to sink your
teeth into some real web based stuff for your school :-)
