Hi,
How does something like Tumblr fit into this? (Tumblr.com) I presume we are talking about 301. In which case Tumblr is a new form of blogging/website application that users can modify using HTML and CSS if necessary. The interesting thing about this SAC is that it actually looks at online communities. And to get students to utilise similar websites that online communities are using would sound quite logical.

The interesting thing about a Tumblr site is

  * you can develop quickly, but not without thought about what you are wanting to achieve, I.e. Key knowledge/skills,
  * design comes into play with ready made templates that can be easily adapted – also choosing the appropriate template is needed as not all templates accommodate 3rd party interaction – so the options of producing graphics and choosing appropriate colour schemes and fonts are there
  * you can attach 3rd party social networking extensions like Twitter, Disqus, Vimeo and YouTube to name a few very quickly and easily – this means that even in the prototype stage students can begin to explore the interconnectedness of these increasingly popular applications to foster communication with the intended audience in a practical manner
  * It reinforces a "real life" situation all of the key skills mandated for this unit with the ability to produce both static and dynamic web pages,
  * appropriate use of tags and metadata are integral to Tumblr. I have used it with my Year 11 IT class with good success. This requires careful consideration and is easy to test and remedy
  * And finally, it allows students to build up confidence without having to slave away at a bloated and difficult to use application like DW, thereby concentrating on the KK areas from both practical and theoretical standpoints.

I would highly recommend Tumblr as an excellent tool to use. I could produce a tutorial if anyone is interested in this.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Subject: [Year 12 IT Apps] Web Authoring Software

Hi Guys,

I’m considering a move away from Dreamweaver next year as I believe it is overly complicated for what they need to achieve.

I’m considering a move to something like www.yola.com<http://www.yola.com> which is an online drag and drop website creation tool.

What I wanted to know is whether other people see this as a ‘Web Authoring Tool’ for study design purposes like I do.

Cheers,
