Dear colleagues

This year the VCAA has implemented several new procedures regarding coursework audit. One such procedure is the submission of work in electronic form. This has resulted in efficiency gains for the VCAA and has enabled your school to be informed today of most of the unit 3 audit results (usually they are not published until September). Another change has been the follow-up for those schools that have received unsatisfactory results - I will be making the initial contact with the schools to discuss the reasons for VCAA's concern with work submitted (in the past the onus has been on the school to make initial contact). In addition I will also be making contact with some schools to discuss ways in which their tasks could be improved even though their results were satisfactory for this unit.

As this is the first year of implementation of the new study, a comprehensive report, prepared by the State Reviewer for each study, will be published on the VCAA website regarding the findings from the audit. Please use this report to help shape your tasks for unit 4 this year and unit 3 next year.

As a generalisation I would like to emphasise the importance of carefully constructing tasks that are directly linked to the current study design and to make sure that there is an accurate relationship between the task requirements and the assessment sheet/marking scheme. If you are using commercially published tasks or tasks prepared by other people, remember that the onus is on you to ensure that the tasks are compliant and if not, to make appropriate modifications to the tasks.

Regards
Paula
