Sorry for the length in time for me to reply to you all.. I have analysed options given to us for the Gantt chart sections for our sacs...

*
	now if funds permitted I would use Microsoft project but that is not possible (at ~$200 per machine).
*
	excel - not a real Gantt chart program and hence can be difficult to assess due to constraints on the program needing to be able to do real time calculations. - and students do not get experience in real programs
*
	Gantt Project - good but does have a few minor flaws... is free and does most things so it is the one I am going to use...

the Gantt Project program. is ok but it does not break down to hours as we would like... but there is a new version suppose to be out "soon" that will have that feature..

but for a free program it does all that is needed of it for the SAC and it is very easy for the students to use...

I am going to try it with my class for U301. and I will see how well it works.

hope this helps some people,

cheers

The problem with Excel is that it's not intended to do the job of
project management (just as it's not intended to be a database).

Creating a chart is one thing, modifying it it another. In a real PM
tool, making a change automatically rearranges the other tasks to suit.
