[Year 12 IT Apps] Unit 3 - Outcome 2

Hi Paul,
I, like you, had many questions on this too(like lots of others..),
Having contacted and corresponded with Paula C., I interpret that the kids just need to be aware of the environment and its plusses and minuses, security issues, method of use as a means of virtual communication via collaboration(teams) etc without necessarily actually needing to be 'functional' in the web site.
Again, like yourself, it depends on how much depth one chooses to develop the site as to all the intricacies to be utilized for this outcome.
Me, will utilize the development cycle of analysis, design, development etc for this one (as required) and will use moodle with a 'false link' to a virtual environment page on the site (a non active link) as part of my site. It will be accessible via a security strategy such as a password interface window or similar in the outcome. Upon entry to that area, the user will see the environment that 'would' be there if it 'actually' was. eg some screen dumps or similar.

These are the steps that I envisage using for this virtual component of the site:

eg.. Main -> link to subpage -> subpage -> link to required discussion area -> security entry -> viewable but non-active virtual environment

The rest will be based upon students being familiarised with many proper professionally made and active sites on the web such as IBM.COM etc

Some teachers may choose to make the virtual component active depending on their network. Mine won't because it needs to be submitted for audit and as a consequence, the auditors don't have access to my school network to see it active (unless prior advice tells me otherwise!)

Hope this helps.

Subject: [Year 12 IT Apps] Unit 3 - Outcome 2

Hi All,

Been a while since I've written to the list, although Unit 3 - Outcome 2
has inspired me to do so!

I was curious about the virtual teams website.

Is it just a virtual teams prototype website for a company or do we need
to include some "normal" website pages (e.g. company info etc) and then
links to the virtual teams prototype component? I would think that it is
the latter given we are expected to look at formats and conventions etc.

I've taught IPM for 7 years now, and must confess that this is the first
time I am a little dissapointed with an assessment task. I'm quite
confused about the exact requirements of the task and don't really see
the point in using screen dumps and copy and paste to create a virtual
teams prototype, or creating one from scratch. Surely it would never be
done with this sort of hassle in the industry (mind you, this comes from
someone who hasn't worked a day in the industry so excuse my naivity).
At year 12 level, I would would hope they would be doing something more
meaningful than this in a 400 minute SAC. Dunno, maybe I'm missing
something.

Anyway, thats my whinge for the day,

Good luck to all!

Paul.
