I think sums up the one of the main thrusts of the discussion neatly!

As far as I can tell the only reason we are having this debate is to satisfy
the need to prepare students for an exam, and not necessarily because the
notion of 'primary and secondary' data sources has any relevance in the
context in which it was given. In respect of the exam I agree we need a
solid definition, but, for the context in which the question was given, is
that distinction missing the point?
