[Year 12 IPM] Action script to hide layers

If I've got a Flash website and I wish to hide/reveal layers.

 

I'm placing an instance of a clip on that layer and then making that
clip visible/invisible with script, and this works fine.

 

But I'm curious. Is there another way to hide/reveal a layer?
