[Year 12 IPM] 2005 Exam

To All
I would like to say that I thought that the exam was generally a good
one. Yes, there were a couple of issues that have been widely discussed,
but overall the exam gave more capable students a chance to display some
of their knowledge. In fact, I think the exam this year allowed that
more than in years gone by.
Its interesting how we focus on the negatives. Do we teach like that? I
hope not.
All of us have written SAC's and tests and exams that we thought were
brilliant, only to find that the moment that the kids start on it, there
are issues and ambiguities galore. Its not so easy!!!!!!
For the future, the change I would like to see is a longer and more
challenging exam that stretches even the capable kids, and then let the
stats take care of the rest. It would reward kids who work hard and
develop a large deal of knowledge.
To the examiners, I would like to says thanks because I think it's a
very difficult job that wont please everyone.

The use of the file on her website is not illegal because she has
illegally copied it.
It is illegal because she did not obtain permission from the author.
Response d is the correct one.
All of the MC questions have an obvious answer. Some contain distracters
as in Q18 but that is what MC questions are all about.
My problem with the Multiple Guess questions is that some of the stems
are too confusing as in Q5 and to a lesser degree Q4 and Q18
BUT all have obvious answers 5(d), 4(d) and 18(d)
The d's have it.

Mark I agree.
Also Australia does not have a fair use policy this is what allows the
Americans to make copies of there cd's to a digital device or cd. We
don't have this law so just the initial ripping of the cd is illegal the
rest increases the level of illegality (for want of a better term).

Hi Stella. Yes, it means (d) but another part of the copyright law
definitely means (b). The question does refer to "Sheena's use of the
file on her website" but she first broke the law by converting it to
MP3. She couldn't have done <D> without first doing <B>.
So there are TWO right answers, AFAIAC, and I would expect VCAA to
accept either. (In Q5 I would expect them to accept any answer from A
to Z!)
If we need to split hairs like this, it's the sign of another dog of a
question. Surely this stuff doesn't plague other VCE exams. Does
anyone know of such SNAFUs in other studies?
