Hi Elizabeth
This question was a bit of a curly one. My initial reaction was - yes, copic markers are a really good tool for indicating colour and tone in design drawings. I’ve spoken with a few people, including those at the VCAA about the their use. The VCD exam has the same restriction and copic markers are usually not allowed/recommended because they leak through the page (being alcohol based) and spoil the work behind. In our exam, they are most frequently used only for the design option drawing, and this has a blank page behind, so it isn’t as much of an issue for PD&T. However, technically, they shouldn’t be taken into the exam. If you feel this should be reconsidered, you would need to discuss it with Leanne Compton, Technology Manager at the VCAA. In the meantime, I would recommend that you ask students to practice using water-based markers/textas when preparing for the drawing section of the exam, and only take these into the exam.

I hope this helps
Thanks
Jill
