Hi all
Information regarding safety and the use of machinery in Technology classrooms/workshops can be hard to find on the DEECD website (it's placed under the principal section, in the governance area). The direct link is:
http://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/principals/governance/Pages/technology.aspx

There is currently an alert published on the DEECD website regarding a drill press incident (August 2013). The recommendation is that drill presses should have an isolation micro-switch on the cover, and that a padlock is not a sufficient protection or control. Newer, more expensive drill presses will have a micro-switch, but older machines probably won't. Use the following link for the alert:

All the best
Jill
