It is an absolute disgrace that there are no Product Design and Technology (wood) students work on display in 2013. It is a slap in the face to all high achieving students and their teachers who put in an extraordinary amount of time and effort only to be told that some aspects of the study design were not covered perfectly. In the Top designs application process, the work only needed to be of A+ standard. Nowhere does it say that all aspects of the work needed to be perfect. Many students who applied and then subsequently rejected, were devastated to be told that from the 80 plus pages that they produced, there was 1 or 2 pages that weren't perfect. Is this the path PDT wood is taking? There should have been a showcase of work from all areas of the PDT domain or a least a better excuse to totally disregard work from our area.

Dear Colleagues
I took my Year 11 & 12 design tech wood students to top designs yesterday. Spent a lesson beforehand explaining to the students, what to look for etc. especially the year 11's, only to find that there were no wood folios. Have I been out of the country the last 12 months, not knowing that Product Design Technology Wood would not be represented? I know there were six textiles displays and loved the display of past students work and if you read their crits many of them explained the influence top design has had on their career and subject choices. Really the effort these students go to in producing a folio is remarkable and Top Designs is a fitting reward for them, even to enter. This was really disappointing, can anyone explain?
