[Design and Technology] Top Designs

John,

Leanne Compton or Jill Livett or did send an email out to the DATTA Vic mailing list at the start of the year explaining that there would be minimum work on display from specialist materials wood, metal and plastic due to the quality of work which was submitted as part of the process in getting the work displayed at TOP designs. I took my year 12's last week and found the fabrics/textiles folios helpful as the criteria is the same but must agree with you that not having examples of wood, metal or plastic was frustrating which the students also made clear to me as well. Would have been good to have some more examples of products which were made from the three materials even if the folio's were not displayed. I had a couple of excellent A standard products and would have been more than happy to submit these for other Technology teachers to see and share..

Regards

Dean.

Hi John,
The advice sent out was that there was little wood represented as very few submitted folios met the new study design.
I think however that anyone booking for top designs should have been informed that there was NO WOOD on display.
I feel your frustration.
Heather

Dear Colleagues
I took my Year 11 & 12 design tech wood students to top designs yesterday. Spent a lesson beforehand explaining to the students, what to look for etc. especially the year 11's, only to find that there were no wood folios. Have I been out of the country the last 12 months, not knowing that Product Design Technology Wood would not be represented? I know there were six textiles displays and loved the display of past students work and if you read their crits many of them explained the influence top design has had on their career and subject choices. Really the effort these students go to in producing a folio is remarkable and Top Designs is a fitting reward for them, even to enter. This was really disappointing, can anyone explain?
