Hi Andrew.

With MS Access you can setup forms to handle the data, but limiting
access would have to be built into the database (MS Access or MySQL).
I'd add 2 tables.
1 table with a list of access previllages. (ie what they can access and
do)
1 for the user's login details with references to the above table.
You could add the third table, but the above should work as it is.

I know MS Access has issues with multiple users accessing it at the same
time. (ie data corruption) And having worked with SQL-Server 2000 I'm
loathed to use Access.

I think that user access to a php/mysql webpage would be easier to
control.

Check sourceforge.net, moodle.org (or other educationally based CMS/LMS)
for possible solutions.

Regards,
Jamie

Subject: [Yr7-10it] [Offtopic] Micorsfot access User control

Dear all,
I am wondering if there is a way to implement access control within an
MS Access database.

We are trying to keep track of staff pd hours.
So a staff member accesses the database and updates how many hours and
what the topic was then submits to a central location.
The pd coordinator can then access the data and print it of.
Staff are only able to access there own records. The pd coordinator can
access all the records.

The school has asked for a access based solution but I am also
relatively sure it can we done Php Mysql, but not fully sure of how.
Any ideas on either option would be fantastic.

Regards
Andrew
