[Yr11 Information Technology] RE: For Paula Christopherson revirtual teams oc.

Thanks Paula, I find it interesting that the site to be created doesn't require the virtual teams component to be actually functioning but I suppose that this could be part of the prototyping process. I guess that this could be covered by adding a discussion page link with password access on the student constructed version of the site. Also, like Margaret Lawson has suggested in her approach, just ensure that the students are aware of the process of virtual teams and how they function and what their purpose is.
Is it compulsory that the students actually use a virtual collaboration in the actual outcome? Or just understand what the process is about?
I have spoken to my techie here and we have moodle, just haven't yet got it working on the network. If I just cover the theory of virtual teams and have them understand about it, will that suffice with a 'non functioning' component in the web site?

Hi Kent

Outcome 2 requires students to create a prototype website that facilitates collaborative decision making and knowledge sharing by a virtual team. The students themselves do not have to be part of this team - the website just needs to show how people working within a virtual team could share confidential information, and also how, if appropriate, the wider public could share their knowledge, for example, providing feedback through email; posting comments on a forum etc. There are a variety of technical ways that this could be achieved and the students just need to either create or simulate how team members could access these facilities from the website, for example, for a password protected section, a user name and password dialogue box would be adequate OR a wikispace for a designated team could be provided. Note: students are required to design the entire website, but only create the home page and the relevant pages to support the abovementioned purposes.

Re: the audit, I am not responsible for this process. I am, however, involved if schools are identified as having some problems with their tasks. To my knowledge, the amount of work you need to do is not great - you are just presenting the tasks and marking guidelines used when students do the tasks. As a general rule of thumb, when creating tasks, use the key skills as the building framework and then check the tasks against the highest range of performance descriptors to identify if the tasks provide students with the opportunities to demonstrate these characteristics If it doesn't, modify your task.

I hope this info clarifies any concerns you have. If not, please do not hesitate to get back in contact with me.

Paula

Hi Paula,

got a question for you wrt this virtual teams OC component...

I was just perusing young Mr.Kelly's site and some other stuff and it just occurred to me that the Novell software products offer the ability for users to be set up in 'groups'. I was just thinking that if that is available on the Windows 2003 NOS, would that type of environment suit the requirements 'officially' for this component of the outcome?

Surely it must since it provides a secure environment in which to exchange information not available to anyone outside the 'group'.

Also, I am really trying to get this right (irrespective of) since lucky me is one of the special few being audited I've just been told. What joy! As if I am not busy enough this year already....

Are there any grounds to apply for an exemption from the audit? Serious, since I am currently doing 2 courses on top of my current teaching load (an online postgrad cert, and the TAA04 qual)?

Hi Paula,

 This is magnificent.
As I am about to give the first Outcome for Yr 11 ( converting printed
product to electronic version ) I will use this as the master checklist
for the style and format and convention used in the final product.

Thanks

Dear colleagues

I have just been alerted to this excellent resource - it is long, but
just select those aspects that are of particular importance.

http://www.agimo.gov.au/information/publishing/formats

Topics include: file formats, audience considerations, navigation,
features of websites, page layouts, information architecture etc. It
also includes some very useful examples of good and bad layouts.

Paula
