HI Jeanean,

I have only used the "Mini UP 3D" for printing, so it's difficult to compare it with others. The print areas is about 10 cm by 10 cm by 10 cm, but in reality it's a bit smaller than that as tall objects tend to warp. Also I'd recommend pre-heating the print bed to get better results and to assure good adhesion to the print-bed, as it may peal off a cold print-bed which will wreck the print.

With purchasing a printer also look at the printing material as you can get black, white, basic colours, & glow in the dark. And finally testing-wise http://www.thingiverse.com/ can give you some excellent models.

Thingiverse is a universe of things. Download our files and build them with your lasercutter, 3D printer, or CNC.

Thanks Jamie,
Yes - that is helpful. We are about to purchase one but don't really know much about them.

Hi Jeanean,

For the modelling of the 3D objects, or running the printer?

Most 3D printers have their own piece of software depending on the printer. Generally speaking they need a STL file for the printer.

In terms of modelling, I use Blender to create the stl file for use with the printer. I have previously use Autodesk's 3DS Max.

Regards,

Jamie

What software do you all use with your 3D printers?
