Yes - that is helpful. We are about to purchase one but don't really know much about them.

For the modelling of the 3D objects, or running the printer?

Most 3D printers have their own piece of software depending on the printer. Generally speaking they need a STL file for the printer.

In terms of modelling, I use Blender to create the stl file for use with the printer. I have previously use Autodesk's 3DS Max.
