[vet-mm] Video Cameras

Last year I bought a set of Canon FS100's. (probably superseded by now) They
are nice and compact and take SD card. I think we paid under $500 with a bag
and extra 4gig card.

Kids can download clips using card reader and YESSS no more mucking around
with tapes. I also brought some Passport HDDs - 250 Gig I think they are for
about $120 - but they get cheaper every time I look!!!

It may be you need something more for full on movie production but I find
they are fine for the video stuff I do in MM/IDM.

We did have a bit of a glitch with importing the clips as they are in a
particular compressed Canon format but used Sony Vegas and that was fine.

Not sure about Premiere - will try it out when I get a chance.

It's probably best to check this aspect before buying as I've heard some of
the proprietary formats are difficult in some editing packages.

Cheers

Claire J

We are editing on Premiere. The only problem was jerkiness when playing back
on the computer but that was because of the high def recording so we lowered
the quality and now it's fine. The cameras wer $1295 each. Thank god for
the VET banding funds.

Hi Rachelle

What software are you editing on? Is the camera output compatible with
Adobe Premier and Final Cut?
Cost of cameras?

Peter

We just bought 6 new digital video cams. Sony HDR-XR100. 80gig hard drive.
Up to 33 hrs recording. 1920x1080 high def recording. 4.0 mega pixel still
images. They are great. No more tapes. yay!! Bought them from Lanmark
computers. Got them to throw in some camera bags.

At Thomastown we want to buy some Video Cameras for use in the new Media
course
next year and in other areas of the curriculum. I am was wondering if anyone
on
this list could provide tips on what cameras are best for this purpose and
the
best place to buy them. I am sure many of you will already have answered
this
questions.
Thanks
Rob Byrne
