Hi Katie,
We have a Lab of 24 IMac's that save and authenticate to a server and have had not had any trouble with the loading of files or any of the animation tools. This is the first I have heard of the problem. I had a student who wasn't able to preview his sounds attached to the timeline. So I trashed his preferences, shut down and then relaunched Flash which solved the problem. I think your Tech isn't trying hard enough, the software is on the local machine and even if the authentication comes from the server, once it is loaded it is being driven by the local IMac and should instantly access the menu items. What your Tech is telling you doesn't make sense.

The only grade I give my Unit 1&2 class at this stage of the year is a score from a mid year exam that I set. I write a report explaining the competencies that they have covered in the first semester and comment on how they are applying themselves but they still have until the end of the year to demonstrate their understanding/ability in any competency. So the S or N doesn't apply until the end of the year.
That is the way I do it but other people may have a different approach.

This just a thought, perhaps suggest to him/her that if the problem is to complicated to solve by themselves then they should seek some help from a professional.
Good luck with your techo.
Yours sincerely
