True. But my kids live in the bush and have crap internet service. Not one of my students have been able to successfully download the VS Community and install it successfully.

We have also lost our network admin.... sigh... and on it goes.

Victoria

If you go onto the Visual Studio website, you'll find that Microsoft now offer many of their IDEs/SDKs (call them what you will) for free for anyone to download for FREE! They have released them under a 'Community' or 'Express' branding depending on the version or language you wish to use. Most SoftDev students will be able to do more than enough coding under these free editions.

This site is: https://www.visualstudio.com/ and there are native Windows, OS X and Linux options available.

While students are required to log in using a valid Microsoft account to receive a product key, they will not be charged for this.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I might be facing a mixed classroom next year (BYOD). Does anybody have any good ideas for an all inclusive programming tool to make a GUI software solution? My 2016 students are comfortable with Python and Wing IDE. Is Django a good way to go?

I've only taught SofDev once and that was back in 2011 or 2012.

Ditto that!

We only have an ancient copy of Visual Studio 2010 available - which is problematic when kids want to work at home.
