[Year 12 SofDev] U4O2: Software tracking tools

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get my head around U4O2, for the KK: techniques for measuring the reliability and maintainability of networks, including audits, error logs and software tracking tools

I'm finding it difficult to identify exactly what a software tracking tool is/does. When I google it I'm finding information about tool tracking software, software that allows you to track your tools and equipment. When looking at Adrian Janson's text book it mentions packet sniffers and packet tracers but it doesn't explicitly refer to them as software tracking tools, in discussions with my Network Administrator he felt that they were probably being referred to as tools used for auditing.

If anyone could offer any advice or resources that would help me to understand what software tracking tools are, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Peter Langham
