Hi Colin.....how are you going? Long time no see :)

No, I didn't do a goodle search......to be honest I am tired of doing research for other people. This guy has a computer with internet, I can't see why he can't open a web browser and do a search.

I had a look at these different programs.....all seem to far above his ability. I know I could upload all the media files to Moodle......but you know what.....that just means i will be doing this guys job for him.

I might just tell him that there is nothing that will do what he wants.

Sorry if I sound grumpy but some people really like to abuse the people with IT skills......i'm sure others have had similar experiences.

G’day Jack,

Have you tried a google search for resources?..

http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=TOEFL&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

many freebies appear to be available though many web based..
thus might inflate your data traffic,

Consider using PodProducer nice freeware that I’ve in
classes used for the last few years, easy to record, easy to playback, many
playdecks.

New version seems to have been released back in May this year,
see http://www.podproducer.net home
page for details.,

This site http://radio.about.com/od/recordingsoftware/a/aa012206a.htm
describes the features in a nutshell.

I can “see” this application covering items 1 and 2
in your mail.

Using Moodle ( yes Jack!, you were right that Moodle would take
off) you could integrate the teacher’s prerecorded items and store the
students verbal answers..

http://hotpot.uvic.ca/ for
Hot Potatoes might be a goer… I’m pretty sure it’s
a freebie as long as you agree to make any lesson created availe to the wider
community..

Don’t think any of these items are Opensource, but….
Good luck..

Hi....I guy at work asked me about testing
software to use in TOEFL.

The things he needs are

1. The ability to test writing

2. The ability to record the student's voice for pronunciation

3. The ability for him to record his own voice so that the student can
hear it and answer appropriately (written or verbal).

Does onyone know of any software that can do this easily. He has a basic
understanding for computers so the easier the better. I have a moodle
server set up and told him he could use that but it does not have the
microphone recording functionality that is easily accessible to his
students. Free would be ideal but commercial is ok too (he said he has
some money in the account).

Thanks.

-Jack
