[Moodle] avi in Moodle

The way to reduce the size of raw, uncompressed AVI files to upload into Moodle is to use a compression codec when creating the movie. There are a couple of different ways of doing this and there is no one correct or best codec to use. I have to date tinkered with MOV, MPG, WMV, DivX codecs although the open source FFMPEG project that uses the Theora codec just caught my eye for its adoption of the MPEG4 standard. The player codec needs to be installed on the client computer to run the particular compressed video.

Con is right. You won't need to convert your files to SWF if you have
the associated movie player on the desktop. However if the file is a few
Megs then downloading may be an issue. Try to keep downloads as small as
possible in case students want to view them from home over a slower
connection.

I would pressume that Moodle can store any form of digital content as
a
file (PDF, DOC, XLS). If so, why not keep the movie in its existing
format?
