In a recent edition of an excellent peer reviewed open access journal, the findings of research into the motivations for using social networking sites is reported. What is noticeable is the distinct difference between using the Internet for entertainment or interpersonal utility and using the Internet for learning. Learning is identified as a strong motive for using the Internet but social networking sites are not.
