Hi,
Just my 2 bobs worth on this point.
I used to have this view - computer awareness is akin to photocopying
awareness - but not now.
When i see students, in graphics working, on files the size of the mcg
scoreboard yet intend to print it on a4, often the photoshop
magnification is 12.5%
Yet i have time and again worked with the Media teachers about sizes,
pixels per inch, lines per inch, screen resolutions etc, etc but they
just don't CARE!
All they want is storage space for their students in the 000's of GB - "
their drive is full why can't YOU fix it?"
AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!
And then there are Videos and music files - COMPRESSION? whats that?
Backups - not my problem mate - the IT guys do that and if we lose work
its YOUR fault!
You see a computer is not like a DVD, TV, CAR, - it is NOT something you
just have to get in and drive, it is NOT something that plays pictures,
sound and video, types and prints.
It is complex, it does many thing you have to know what you are doing,
files sizes, naming, location, backups, oh and something called
internet, and it needs to be well taught - something about bad habits?
You see I can learn to drive a photocopier, or a TV, or a DVD player in
a few hours tops, but computers, well after 25 years Iam still learning?!
