Whilst not the answer you wanted if you are planning on blocking Myspace
may I also suggest you also make sure you try to keep up to date with
blocking Proxy sites such as Kproxy and many others. Our students had
been using my space so we blocked it using sina but the students then
used proxy sites to bypass the security and go to myspace.

Our technician keeps an eye on the activity lists each week and updates
the filters as the need arrises.

As for article about liable via the internet the age has been really
good in the last few weeks. But the big key is to remind the students
that It's not just about where the article or blog was written it's the
laws of the country that it was read in that apply. So if they write in
Australia about someone in the USA and it is read over there then they
can be found liable under there laws not ours.

Hi All,
well it was only a matter of time before we found our first reference to
staff here on MySpace. Of course it is not too complimentary and most
likely libelous and or defamatory. I have had a chat with the boss and
he wants to block MySpace, however he realises that we can't control
what students have access to at home and we can't keep up with the sheer
amount of sites available to students to post to.
These sites offer much to education, just take a look at the amount of
PD about blogs etc, however, I wonder if we are being effective in
communicating to students the legal implications of this tool.
We are only just introducing blogs etc to staff in PD sessions, I was
wondering if anyone can share with me any official legal advice they
have had or had to give in this area. Do you know of any sites
(Australian would be good....sigh) that have info on this?
Many thanks
Cameron
