[English] Year 12 SAC Criteria Sheets or Rubrics

Hi

In fact the panel - for both GAT and English prides itself on holistic
markingJ And the mantra is to 'reward what you can' within your 'on balance'
judgement. If you have a stack of 25 papers you are essentially ranking them
- but you might award the same mark to two different responses for
different reasons - both for example are midrange, but one has better
language control, the other strength in ideas.

The way 'into' this is to first decide if a piece is of a High, Middle or
Low Range. Then decide if it is high middle or low within that range. From
that point you can allocate a score. For SAC tasks there are the 5
divisions to consider - the very top and the very bottom are the extreme
high and extreme low. The three in the middle are where most of the kids
are. (I always see the very top as a piece that has got the x-factorJ )

Hope that helpsJ

Jen

My understanding is that the VCAA wants us to do holistic marking rather
than use the old rubrics. We use the published VCAA marksheets and
highlight levels to which each student meets the criteria in different
sections of the sheet as appropriate. If you look at the criteria they are
in effect set out like a rubric but without the numbers assigned to each
section. It allows you to make on balance judgements much more easily than
with assigned numbers (but them I don't "do" numbers if I don't need to...)

Subject: [English] Year 12 SAC Criteria Sheets or Rubrics

Hi,

I am looking for some good examples of criteria sheets or rubrics for Year
12 VCE English SACs. Can someone either email me examples or point me in the
right direction.

Many thanks,
