VITTA's Certificate of Emerging Technologies consists of four units leading
the award of the Certificate. The creation of a reflective blog and
participation in an action project will lead to discoveries about the
technologies that are emerging at an ever increasing rate by exploring the
technologies themselves in this exciting new VITTA Certificate of Emerging
Technologies.

* Part 1: Monday 16th May Podcasts and digital story telling to Enhance
Learning
How do podcasts enhance student learning? How do you make podcasts? What
about digital storytelling? Learn through a practical hands-on workshop with
time to explore and learn the tools that students love to use to demonstrate
their learning. This is part of the four week course that leads to the
awarding of the Certificate of Emerging Technologies.

In this session you will explore making and subscribing to podcasts as an
example of Web 2.0 and continue developing your Professional Learning
Network through podcasting.

The session will include hands-on exploration of some of the tools
introduced by the discussion. At the end of the session you will have made
and uploaded a short podcast to the web and begun to explore digital story
telling tools.

* Part 2: Wednesday 1st June Cybersafety, copyright and digital citizenship
Are you concerned about the impacts of ICTs and public awareness of the
impacts and potentials of ICTs? Teaching our students about the ethical way
to approach life on the web is an important issue for today's teachers.

This session will update your knowledge of Australian copyright law, ethics
and the opportunities and responsibilities of teachers in the digital age.

* Part 3: Wednesday 15th June Mobile Technologies for Learning

How can netbooks, iPads, iPod Touches and iPhones help learning? What are
some of the issues involved in mobile learning in the classroom? Is
technology a fundamental requirement for teaching and learning, or an
optional add-on? A hands-on learning session with mobile devices provided
and an exploration of useful apps for learning.

* Part 4: Wednesday 22nd June Blogs, wikis and clouds: Web 2.0 and Education

Excite your primary students by integrating today's technologies into their
learning programs. Show them, before they show you, how to communicate in
the virtual world with blogs, wikis and clouds. All parts of Web 2.0. This
VITTA created module is part of the Certificate in Emerging Technologies or
can be taken as an individual stand-alone unit and at the completion of the
four sessions, you will be accredited with a Certificate of Emerging
Technologies.

What is Web 2.0 and why does it matter for education? Major new research
into the use of Web 2.0 technologies, such as wikis, blogs and social
networking, shows that young learners are prolific users of these
technologies in their leisure time, but the use of Web 2.0 in the classroom
is still limited. The research also found that over half of teachers
surveyed believe that Web 2.0 resources should be used more often in the
classroom. However, the majority of teachers questioned had never used Web
2.0 applications in lessons, despite being frequent users of technology in
their personal and professional lives. In this session you will explore
blogs, wikis and cloud computing as an example of Web 2.0 and begin to
create a Professional Learning Network through blogging.

The session will include a discussion of important questions that are raised
on why primary students should blog and the use of blogs in education, as
well as hands-on exploration of some of the tools introduced by the
discussion.

VITTA, in collaboration with Ringwood Secondary College, presents the
Contemporary Learning Series beginning with a one day conference on Mobile
Learning with No Limits.

Have you heard the latest about 1:1 devices and how teachers are using them
effectively in the classroom?

Do you want to know how 1:1 is relevant to the new Australian Curriculum?
Then don't miss this exciting conference! VITTA presents in collaboration
with Ringwood Secondary College the Contemporary Learning Series beginning
with a one day conference on Mobile Learning with No Limits.

Join us for a day of practical hands-on experience with 1:1 devices and the
support of leading educators.

This conference is designed for all teachers both Primary and Secondary and
of all subjects and specialist ICT.

The Conference sessions on the Australian curriculum, augmented reality, QR
codes, differentiated learning, the iPad trial and many others show how the
future is being transformed. "One-to-one learning is based on the belief
that people learn differently as a result of owning personal handheld
computing devices (Chan et al., 2006). The attributes of these devices,
including portability, connectivity and context sensitivity combined with
sound pedagogical ideas can transform learning." from Educational Technology
& Society, 13 (4), 1-3.

At the very least you will come away with ideas, resources, meeting great
educators involved in the field of mobile learning and most of all,
inspiration you can take straight to the classroom.
