[elearning] IT and sunny days

Just looking up some stats for IT in the USA .. with some good and bad news.

>From this report Microsoft are not doing all that well but that is not
a bad thing as diversity encourages innovation, competition and better
value for money. Apple and Google are doing slightly better with no
debt overheads. Intel and Apple are doing best to hire new people.

As one chap sadly mentions, "It's tough to be laid off, [but] it must
be tougher still to be laid off from a company with billions in cash -
especially since you helped build that cash reserve." .. ouch.

Form the report, we can probably expect cuts in highly centralised IT
services to reduce overheads (think state department IT departments
and large corporations etc.) From what I can read this is partly
because "IT professionals are typically well-paid on the salary scale
and a centralized IT budget is typically a big number, which puts a
huge bulls-eye on it."

In these troubled times, debt-free, small and innovative is beautiful.
