Hi Paul,

You obviously need to satisfy yourself that what I write is also the VCAA view of things.

Basically, student does Cisco and gets the Cisco certificate.

To get VCE units and Enter score bonuses, they need to do some extra assessment that maps their knowledge against the national training package units.
Since the start of 2005 the Electrotechnology Computer Systems Certificate III, has been the national qualification against which Cicco is mapped.
Cisco CCNA1 to CCNA 4 ( 2 years of work ) knowledge/skills have been mapped against two units from this Certificate --- UTENES106AA ( Install Electrical Apparatus) and ..UTENES206AA ( Maintain and repair apparatus and circuits ).

Therefore when students are assessed against these modules they get for each of the modules a VCE Unit 3-4 sequence PLUS 10% Enter bonus on average of primary 4 VCE subjects.
To be clear, student is assessed against UTENES106AA and gets a Unit 3 - 4 VCE sequence credit, plus 10% bonus on the ENTER.
Then, student is assessed against UTENES206AA and gets another Unit 3 - 4 VCE sequence credit, plus another 10% bonus on the ENTER.

See www.vcaa.vic.edu.au under VET , Cisco for the official documentation that came out around May this year .

Your question is , can they study at Box Hill and get the VCE units and 10% bonus ? I can't speak for Box Hill ( maybe someone on the list can ??? ) , but I don't see why they would want to bother bringing students up to VCE requirements -- they just teach Cisco in this case.
So, maybe you can ( subject to VCAA approval ) link up with a neighbouring school that is an RTO for Cisco and can assess your students for the relevant Electrotechnology units. Perhaps you can send them to Forest Hill College as we are registered to deliver this and we are up the road from you.

Disclaimer: I do not work for the VCAA nor for Box Hill Institute ( but I do run this mailing list ! ) , so please check all this advice before directing your own students on a particular pathway.

Best Wishes

Hi Kevork,

We do not run a Cisco VCE VET program, however many students in years 10/11
are interested in doing the CCNA course at Box Hill Tafe. Is this acceptable
by VCAA and can they still receive all the credits towards their VCE?

Subject: [vet-it] Cisco in Secondary Schools -- look at the rewards !!!!

   Hi Folks,

Sorry for the cross posts but this is worth looking at a few times I
think.

I know we have important things to do with exams on the horizon, so in the
spirit of teaching IT and VET ( which includes Cisco CCNA ) and a bit of
each please read on .

How many of us knew that the new Cisco program available in Secondary
Schools as a VCE VET program for the 2 year course rewarded students in the
following unprecedented way ?

Quoting from
http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vet/programs/cisco/cisco.html#H2N40003C

"Credit in the VCE
Students who complete half the Cisco Networking Academy program (that is
they receive credit for either UTENES106AA or UTENES206AA) will be eligible
for two units credit towards their VCE: one Unit 3-4 sequence.
Students who complete the entire Cisco Networking Academy Program (both
UTENES106AA and UTENES206AA) will be eligible for four units credit towards
their VCE: two Unit 3-4 sequences.

ENTER Contribution
Students who receive a Unit 3-4 sequence (for either UTENES106AA or
UTENES206AA) will be eligible for a 10% increment towards their ENTER (10%
of the average of the primary four scaled studies).
Students who receive two Unit 3-4 sequences (for both UTENES106AA and
UTENES206AA) will be eligible for two 10% increments towards their VCE (10%
of the average of the primary four scaled studies). "

That is, Cisco students who finish the course get (2 x Units 3 -4) VCE
credit PLUS (2 x 10%) ENTER bonus . That is, it counts as slightly better
than the 5th and 6th subject at Year 12 since the 10% is the average of
the top 4 which by definition would have to be higher numerically than 10%
of a 5th or 6th subject.

 Keep well
