[Yr7-10it] Getting Software development up and running

Hi,

Apologies for the cross post. For a number of years we have been offering IT Apps (and Infomatics next year) but haven't been able to offer Software Development as very few of our students have an interest in programming. I would like some ideas of what schools at doing in the junior years to prepare students for SD. We offer electives at year 9 and 10 but most of our students come into unit 2 with minimal programming and scripting knowledge and few students are deemed ready for SD at the end of year 11.
Those who want to do SD have to travel to another school to do it. I want to build up our elective programs to improve students' programming knowledge so that we can offer SD in year 12 and would like some ideas of what has worked in other schools, especially in the junior years.
