[Yr7-10it] RE: PD Session times and timetabling issues

Hi Geoff,

If I can take up from Ros.....

The commitee, from Adrian as President to Renee as EO, all take the issue of regional PD (including starting time) seriously. We have mucked up on the first one but we will endeavour to get it right from now on. There are reasons for the muck up but I won't bore you with the details.

Regional PD discussion was lengthy and considerable. The weekend was productive and all of us are committed to turning our discussion into tangible action wherever possible. Issues raised ranged from national and international considerations to conference review to regional PD to conference/keynote planning to student competitions and planning for ACEC 2010. Apart from giving up the weekend to plan the VITTA year, the weekend was productive because of the collective expertise around the table who were able to make it and give their time willingly.

I won't jump the gun and start telling you our plans for PD because we all probably need a couple of days to think about what we spoke about. The minutes need to be written up and distributed to the committee and then Adrian as president will let the list know of plans and actions for regional PD.

In the meantime, we would ask all our regional members to think about consulting your colleagues about the type of ICT PD your area would like to attract. Bearing in mind that yes, we are conscious of the need to run VCE IT PD but also PD for 7-10 IT, ICT integration in other 7-10 KLAs and the use of ICT in the Primary area. It's simply not possible to run ICT PD if only a couple of people show up and if VITTA does not what activities will best fill the needs in your region.

We intend to build in this type of active consultation into the model we are proposing and we sincerely hope that it will better serve our regional members.

Best wishes

Phil

PS The issue of starting PD later (eg 10am) was discussed at the VITTA Committee Planning weekend yesterday and although it is probably too late to change next Friday's PD a later start will be considered for future all day sessions.

Hi kent,
I feel your pain. Maybe suggest this to your timetabler.

We run our school on a 2 week cycle - 10 days. Our timetabler counts out
each Day 1, Day 2, etc. in each term.
He then, swaps days on the timetable to add the days we have less of. For
example, if we have 6 x Days 6's (Mondays) and 10 x Day 1's (Friday), he'll
swap 2 Day 1's into 2 Day 6's.

Therefore, the whole term becomes balanced. It works.

Litsa
