Hey Ros, you just gave me a great idea with that Binary concept....Ta muchly! A poster with kids names and then their codename next to it!
Maybe this can be extended to ASCII, HEX etc
What does your name look like in code? could be the heading! Now I need to figure out what my own name looks like in code..theres a challenge!

Hi all,
I had the same thing last term with one major difference - I WAS NOT IN
A COMPUTER ROOM. So I did some fun stuff with binary numbers - showed
them the first 10 letters of the alphabet in binary - got them to decode
some words, and then got them to make codes and give them to their
friends to decode.
Half an hour is not a long time - you will find they will be totally in
awe - have fun with them.

Cheers
Ros

Hi Russell - I did the same thing last year. I taught them Gamemaker in
50 steps. I had a sheet that listed the steps they had to follow. I ran
them through it step by step using a data projector. By the time I got
to step 10 some wanted to go ahead of me and I let them. They loved it.
(I'll look for sheet and e-mail it to you)

Subject: [Yr7-10it] Year 5-6 30 minute "taster"

Hi all,

We have some year 5 and 6 students from local primary schools coming
to experience secondary school for a day. They're scheduled to have a
30 minute IT lesson each.

Does anyone have a suggestion for what to do with them?

I've only taught 9-12 before so I'd value any input!

Thanks in advance

Russell
