[Yr11 Information Technology] Outcome One?

Hi Amanda

As a follow-up to my earlier response to this question, you can have
more than one task to cover the different components of an outcome, so
you can do what you suggested. You will note that in units 3 and 4,
typically each outcome is demonstrated through more than one task.

The study design states that there are a variety of tasks that are
acceptable, and it is a school decision as to how many tasks are used
and what ones you select.

Subject: [Yr11 Information Technology] Outcome One?

Hi,
Still looking for answer to my original question....

Is it necessary to combine the 'pathways' component with the
'programming' component OR can I do separate sac's....
My idea was to get each student to research the skills, qualifications,
etc necessary for an individual IT job and present their findings to the
class.

Thanks too for all the concurring emails re: unit one - I was so
relieved... especially with 7 students who have never used a computer
before.....

Hi all,

I just started teaching the new IT course this term and found the exact
same problem as everyone here. The previous teacher had spent term 1 on
Outcome 1 so I had to rush to finish the other 2 outcomes. I too found
it hard to teach proper Database skills and complete an outcome in such
a short time. Oh well maybe the course will be changed by the time I'm
'officially' back from maternity leave...

Hi,
I also concur that the Year 11 course has too much in it. I to spent so
much
time trying to do a good job on the first two outcomes that it left
precious
little time for the third outcome. I definitely think some rejigging is
necessary.

Hi All.

I agree with everyone regarding the lack of time. I have a group of year
10
boys doing Units 1 and 2. To make things worse, some of them don't want
to
be there. And, to add to that, I had no computer facilities until the
end of
March (our computer lab was gutted, rebuilt and rewired, with the
computers
stored, and it took several weeks after "completion" before I could get
reasonable functionality back into the system), which means I have had
to
fit three Outcomes into Term 2 - I failed! I'm still struggling to get
some
sort of semblance of order into the marks with many incomplete
submissions
of work.

Fortunately, there is a bit more leeway than for Units 3 and 4 as far as
marking and reporting go. Even so, let's hope that in light of what
everyone
has said here, VCAA will revise the requirements a bit.

Jeff Lynn,
Yeshivah College.
