[vet-it] Is this list really retired?

Thanks for the contact, Kent, Peter, it's good to be in touch with
teachers who know more about this course. No one here at Heywood knows
exactly what stream we are doing. I inherited the class from another
teacher, who left no concrete information. There is a fair bit of
networking involved, so I think that is their stream. Could you please
enlighten me?

The modules the students are enrolled in are:

BSBCMN106A Follow Workplace Safety Procedures

ICAD2012A Design Organisational Documents Using Computing Packages

ICAI3021A Connect Internal Hardware Components

ICAI3110A Implement System Software Changes

ICAS3032A Provide Network Systems Administration

ICAS3121A Administer Network Peripherals

ICAS3234B Care For Computer Hardware

ICAU1128A Operate A Personal Computer

ICAD2005A Operate Computer Hardware

ICAD2006A Operate Computing Packages

ICAU2013A Integrate Commercial Computing Packages

ICAU2231A Use Computer Operating System

ICAU3019A Migrate to New Technology

ICAW2001A Work Effectively In An IT Environment

ICAW2002A Communicate In The Workplace

ICPMM321A Capture A Digital Image

I have downloaded the NTIS documents which define the criteria for each
module. So far, I am assessing using several methods, including
observation, checking the required hours are done, assessing submitted
work based on the NTIS assessment criteria. I have also given them some
online theory tests (using Moodle).

We have a room with, potentially, a stand-alone network. There is a
server which the students have configured, a switch, and a desktop PC
for each student. I had the CAT cable ordered along with the ducting,
but these were delivered to the builders doing the government funded
building (!). They sent it to their warehouse and cannot trace it (!!).
When this is finally resolved, we can finish building the network and
they will do the software and peripherals administration, etc.

These students respond best to more practical activities, so getting in
60 hours of designing organisational documents using computing packages
is quite a challenge. They enjoyed dismantling the dozens of ancient
PCs which cluttered the store rooms, and then used the hardware
knowledge they acquired to alter their own PCs - add more memory, add
another disk drive, etc. They also get to install any new software
which the school gets.

One of the girls told me today that her Nanna bought a computer on the
weekend, and she put it all together for her and installed the software.
She was very proud because her Nanna was so impressed. This is a great
course to teach, but I would appreciate any tips and help from more
experienced VET IT teachers (I previously taught VCE units 1-4).

Thanks,

Quentin Lydall

Hi Quentin,

what stream are you doing?

General, NetAdmin or Software?

I'm doing the NetAdmin stream.

Peter Nash, Kevork and a crew of others are also doing it.

Are you doing the scored assessment stuff or not? (my lot are).

Hi, I've picked up a VET IT Cert 3 class, lovely kids and interesting
course but I'd like to share with other VET IT teachers. Is this list
still active?
