[Technical] SPAM!

Hi Jim,

Many ISPs use the open source SpamAssassin filter.

The Department of Education has tried several approaches and has settled
on Symantec's Brightmail for its email service.

On a general note, there is no satisfactory rule for declaring an email
either ham or spam.

It is only possible to receive no spam at all by setting the rejection
bar successively higher until legitimate email is being blocked as well
... this is called the False Positive Problem ... your staff members may
be happy to have unsolicited advertising material from a zoo blocked,
but not a confirmation from the same venue of their excursion for next
Wednesday!

Cheers,

Clarky

Hi All,

I wish to enquire as whether or not you receive spam within your school
and what tools you are using to tackle this problem. I would also be
interested to know of any school out there doesn't receive spam at all
and how they accomplished this.

Thanks
