We have Netware 6.5 servers and XP clients. Some years ago we had to
change from VET also, but stayed with Computer Associates. My boss is
away so I don't have definitive answers.

The workstations run the eTrust client (v7 at the mo). They are set
up to fetch the signature update via ftp from our intranet server.
Overnight a (Windows) box 'on the outside' fetches the updates from
CA's ftp. Every morning someone (moi at the mo) manually ftps the
sigs from the 'outside' box to the (linux) intranet box - takes a
minute all up.

I had some fun (not) setting up the clients so that a 'silent
install' could be done - nowhere near as easy as VET master
installation was. It involves editing 2 files - (inoc6.icf and
inodist.ini) to set preferences, then installing with this:

"...\etrust7\bin\eav_s.win\inosetup /s"

I seem to recall that you can do a manual install, set the
preferences, then copy these 2 files back to the \eav_s.win folder.

Updating seems to have minimal impact on network - manual download
takes a few seconds, while the automatic update takes place in the
background, usually when the user first connects to the network each
day. Our network is 100mbps with 1gbps backbone - but see above about
boss being away.

I think the licence costs about $12 a seat/year.

We are happy with eTrust - seems to work well enough.

Hope this helps.
