Hi Neil,

The question explicitly says “… so that this pseudocode is fully tested, …”
Being an exam, there’s no actual program to test, so it really needs to be a desk check of the pseudocode (perhaps presenting the table in the question as a test table was misleading ….). We can’t assume how a developer might have coded the algorithm (correctly or not), otherwise students could make up any perceived coding error instead of focussing on the errors in the logic of the algorithm.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the response, I find this confusing.  I would think the testing table should be based on the written component not on the pseudocode that already has errors in it.  If you go on the written part of the question, they need to have either enough money or have given permission to top up, the key being OR.  The pseudocode has the error of AND, so are the students supposed to create a testing table from faulty pseudocode?  I would think the testing table is developed from the written component, so you then find the errors to answer 8b.

The True in light blue above is actually False in the examiners report, which I think is incorrect.  If you have the money to pay the fare then surely it’s a valid booking.

Hi Neil,

There are two problems with the algorithm described in the pseudocode.
Firstly, it requires top-up to be true, regardless of whether there is enough money to pay for the fare.
Secondly, it requires that the balance must be greater than $5, not greater than or equal to.

Can someone take a look at Question 8a in Section C, and either enlighten me or confirm the error.  In test 4 the account balance is 5 and topup False, I would expect the result to be “valid_booking = True”, as there is enough money in the account to pay for the ticket.

Multiple choice Q10 was marked as ambiguous. That's great and all but what about critical path question? You know that concept that wasn't examinable that was in the exam...
