Hi All!

I've just had a quick look through the proposed changes to VCE Computing
Study Design and throught I'd throw out some comments for discussion:

1. I like that Units 1 and 2 have compressed the two data analysis topics
into one. That is a definate winner! Needed to happen.

2. Unit 1 Outcome 1 needs a more contemporary, and less abstract context
than "research" which students do not always relate to. Possibly provide
an e-commerce context where the data they are collecting is related to a
product and prospective clients/customers. Student can investigate SEO and
use Google statistics for a real world project.

3. I like programming moving from Unit 2 to Unit 1 with more time to go
into depth and do a project. Keeps students interested who are wanted to go
into SD.

4. DISAPPOINTED in the complete absence of relational databases stipulated
in Unit 1 or 2. We do not have time to go into rel DBs in Software
Development yet it is crucial for so many SAT projects. Relational
Databases are the cornerstone of every organisation's information system.
My 2 cents says: "Scrap the Innovative Solutions" and add Relational
Databases - and let the student be innovative about how the interface is
produced - online interface using PHP, a programmed Interface, or just use
MS Access.

Thoughts?
