Hi Tony,

Yes, it’s tight, but I’ve got time on that day and the next to get the marking and the results in. (The first 3 sections will be done, so it’s only the designs I will need to assess, and I only have a class of 9 students.) My school knows this.

I also reserve the right to adjust the key dates – it means the students will have to adjust their project plans. ;)

Chris,

Review your timelines esp Design.
Marks need to be given for SAT criteria 1 – 4 June 14.
Likely your school will want them a week before that.

My key dates:

Project Plan

20-Apr

SRS (2&3)

29-May

Design

13-Jun

Program (5&6)

8-Aug

Testing

22-Aug

Evaluation

5-Sep

They need to know the dates for their project planning, and I expect that they interpret these dates as milestones (ie, I just tell them to use the dates for their project plan, but I don’t tell them how they should use them). Their job is then to fill in the tasks around them.

Hi all,

Like Claudia I found students needed those intermediary due dates. I have broken the Unit 3 SAT up into three sections with due dates.

In planning their Gantt charts they needed those due dates and also needed to know when I would be covering topics in class so they knew the earliest that they could start that section of their Plan. I wonder how specific we can be about these dates. There has to be some leeway for the students to choose each task's beginning and duration.

Did anyone else worry about that?

How have you approached it?

Hi Graeme,
My students have handed in PM, and draft of data collection methods this week, data processing before end of term, draft of SRS first week back, complete SRS second week, designs end of May.
Last year I had it all come in at end, and my students demanded incremental completion dates this year, many had done Informatics which had worked the same way last year and they indicated that was problematic as they needed more structure. With a small group (6) I was happy to collect all at the end but went with there request.

But I have added 'low stakes' hurdle tasks along the way to help with learning, ie tests on PM, PMS, analysis, etc
