Have you looked at the Bebras.org international competition for Algorithmic Thinking. Kids can tackle problems in teams of up to 4.

Thanks for the feedback. Setting up AppInventor was the biggest hurdle and I have dumped it too. I would still like to do mobile phone apps in y10. Are there any friendly ones available?

Our y10 classes have been aligned to VCE and are part of senior school now. We have 7X72 minutes per 10 day cycle. I am writing a new course for next year and would like to include algorithmic thinking and programming plus multimedia. Will really appreciate some good ideas.

We like Python. AppInventor looked like the way to go but it was too complex to set up and slow on our network Tried Android Studio as well but again, too cumbersome for our kids to set up and too slow on the network. Python is a lovely learning tool and useful as well - straight from pseudocode to code.

I have dumped trying to make apps for the moment...not much seems to be network friendly. The latest AppInventor is horrible in trying to get it loaded...so I've dumped it. Doing Python presently...still considering the semester 2 content??

I used MIT App Inventor but our network will not allow students access using their phone. There is an emulator on the website but students don’t get a buzz by using the emulator.

Hi,

I want to introduce Android Apps development to my Year-10 class. I trialled Android Apps development using Android Studio. After a few hiccups, I was able to get the Android Studio up & running on my computer. However, when I trialled it on school computer in the school network, it is not working.

If anyone is currently teaching Android Application Development, could you share with me what software you are using.
