Good morning,

I'm interested in peoples thoughts on the networking content that needs to be covered in SD, it's my first year teaching SD and my class and I have made use of Adrian Janson's textbook.

In chapter 2 there is quite a lot of Networking theory, and in many of the SACs that I've looked at from the Edulist resources there's a strong focus on networking theory.

The study design references are:
- technical underpinnings of intranets, the Internet and virtual private networks
- characteristics of wired and wireless networks

Technical underpinnings of intranets, the Internet and virtual private networks appears to focus mostly on the telecommunications infrastructure and how it's used to support intranets, the Internet and VPNs

Characteristics of wired and wireless networks appears to focus mostly on the characteristics such as bandwidth, cost, mobility, ease of installation and security.

So, as far as covering LANs/WANs, Network hardware and transmission media, am I right in thinking that they're not assessable content in the SD exam?

Most of my students are covering that content in IT Applications, so they have an understanding of this already.

Thanks for your help,

Peter Langham
