[Year 12 SofDev] RE: SD and networking

Well, I think the reality is, that the network will be managed
by experts, and he software will be written by experts.
There may be some interaction between the groups.  We had regular
meetings between the expert groups to discuss areas in common.
Most software developers will not get within a bulls roar of gaming
software.  In the end, some of your argument has validity sometimes,
but at year 12 we are not getting them ready immediately for work.
We should aim to teach them as much about developing software as
possible, since that is what he course is about. Even the SDLC has been
perverted to cater for networking and the first sac.  None of my uni
SDLC books are structured the way we teach it.  It has been modified
for sac 1 and the design phase is called the physical design. That's my
view anyway.  To drive the point home, I had students this year doing the Cisco 
course, and they were often asking the question of the SD course, what has 
this to do with software development?  Instead of building link lists and such,
they were designing networks.
